The fast bowler from Mumbai Shardul Thakur had a stellar night on Tuesday in Indore for the Indian National Cricket Team. He bowled a brilliant spell against the young Sri Lanka side to strengthen his case for the upcoming tour to New Zealand. Speaking of the same, Shardul Thakur credited the success to all the hard work he put in the domestic circuit, IPL and with Bharat Arun during national duty.
After Virat Kohli won the toss to field first, Shardul Thakur (3/23) along with Navdeep Saini (2/18) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/38) restricted Sri Lanka to a below-par total of 142 at a venue that was supposed to witness a run-fest on Tuesday evening. Chasing the tally, the Indian batsmen made it look like a walk in the park.
I keep bettering my skills – Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur feels that he has become a “better T20 bowler” compared to what he was a couple of years back. The figures of 3/23 showed that there had been a marked improvement in his death bowling since the 2018 Nidahas T20 Trophy in Sri Lanka. He stated that regular match-practice has helped him sharpen his white-ball skills.
“Pretty much. I have been working hard for it and in an international game, when it pays off, it really makes me happy. So whenever you practice, you need to add to your strengths and keep bettering your skills. Over a period of time, while practising I have been developing my skills and brushing it up. Playing last two-three years in the IPL, and domestic cricket, I have gotten better,” Thakur said in the post-match press conference.
Navdeep Saini is bowling with some gas –
Further, he also praised his fellow fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who is delivering goods at an extreme pace. Shardul Thakur showered words of praise on Saini for using bouncers and yorkers to perfection. He also felt that Sri Lanka scored a below-par total on a nice batting wicket.
“The pitch was very good. It was about 170-180 wicket. I don’t think it was difficult to score runs on that pitch. There was no dew also today.” He also praised fellow fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who too impressed on Tuesday “He was really good in this game. The way he uses his bouncers and yorkers is creditable. He was also bowling with some gas,” added Thakur.
All in all, it was a brilliant show from the Indian bowler Shardul Thakur on the other night. He would like to finish the final T20I in Pune on the positive note to better his chances in the playing XI for the upcoming games.
