ICC announces the points system for the Test Championship t begin in 2019.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the points distribution system for the Test Championship.

The Test championship is all set to kick start after the conclusion of the next year World Cup in England and Wales. There would be 120 points up for grabs for two teams in a particular series irrespective of the number of matches.

According to the new points system, the winning team’s points of a Test will differ for each series depending on the total number of matches.

A draw will give a team one-third of the winning points while a tie will divide the winning points.

Therefore, there will be a total of 720 points available in the Test championship. There will be three home as well as three away series for the nine participating teams in a four-year cycle.

The top two teams in the table will battle it out for glory in the final which is set to be played at Lord’s.

Here is how the Points System will fare out in Test championship.

In a five-match series, each Test match will carry 24 points for the winning team. In case of a stalemate, teams will be awarded eight points each.

For a four-match Test series, 30 points will be at stake for the winning team. Meanwhile, only ten points will be given in case of a draw.

In case of a three-match Test series, there will be 40 points for grabs for winning one Test match. However, 13.33 points will be given in case of a drawn Test match.

Similarly, 60 points will be awarded for a Test win in the two-match series. 20 points will be given in case of a drawn match.

Consequently, even the dead rubbers in the series will hold the same weight of points. Thus, the teams will not like to take it easy even after winning a particular series.
