On Saturday (8th June), during the match 12 of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, England secured a dominant 106-run victory against Bangladesh at Sophia Gardens (Cardiff).

After losing the toss, the host side England managed to put a giant first innings total of 386/6 (50 overs). In reply, Bangladesh batting collapsed on 280 runs in 48.5 overs.

i) It was the seventh successive time when England has scored 300+ ODI total. No other team has scored these numbers of consecutive 300+ runs in ODI cricket. The previous record holder Australia scored six times 300+ scores in ODI cricket (from February 2007 to March 2007).

ii) England scored 386/6 (50 overs) which is England’s highest total in Cricket World Cup history. Their previous highest total in CWC was 338/8 (50 overs) against India at Bengaluru on 27th February 2011.

i) Opening batsman Jason Roy scored 153 runs off 121 balls. It is the second highest individual score by an England batsman in Cricket World Cup history (the record is 158 by Andrew Strauss). Also, it is the second highest individual score by an England batsman against Bangladesh in ODI history (the record is 154 by Andrew Strauss).

ii) Jos Buttler slammed his 19th ODI half-century in just 33 balls. It is the joint fastest fifty by an England batsman in CWC history. Earlier, former English captain Michael Vaughan scored a 33-ball half-century against West Indies at Bridgetown on 21st April 2007.

iii) Ben Stokes finished this match with the bowling figures of 6-1-23-3. It is the best bowling figures in CWC history by an England bowler against Bangladesh. The left-arm spinner Monty Panesar was the previous record holder with the bowling figures of 7-2-25-3 (at Bridgetown on 11th April 2007).

Bangladesh

i) Shakib Al Hasan completed his century in 95 balls which is the fastest CWC century by a Bangladesh batsman. The previous record was 111-ball century by Mahmudullah (against New Zealand at Hamilton on 13th March 2015).

ii) Shakib Al Hasan scored 121 runs which is the second highest individual score by a Bangladesh batsman in Cricket World Cup history. Mahmudullah is the record holder with 128* against New Zealand at Hamilton on 13th March 2015.
