After their comprehensive 51-run victory over India in the second ODI in Sydney, Australia not only clinched the series but also jumped to the top spot in ICC ODI World Cup Super League’s points table. The Australian team was sensational in their approach from the word-go as Steve Smith’s hundred followed by half-centuries from Glenn Maxwell, David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Marnus Labuschagne helped them post 389.

Aaron Finch, who won the toss and elected to bat first, put on 142 with David Warner to get things up and running along with laying a solid foundation. Steve Smith was yet again destructive as India’s bowlers had no answer to his flamboyant stroke-making and unusual shots. Smith reached his fifty off 36 balls and hundred yet again off 62 balls that he also did in the last ODI, sharing a partnership of 136 with Labushchagne. Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 63 off 29 deliveries put the finishing touches on a magnificent batting performance.

In response, India also made a strong start; however, the tempo was challenging to maintain during a monster chase. There were fifties from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul while some handy cameos from the openers, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravindra Jadeja but the task proved monumental. It would be interesting to see if the tourists maintain the same bowling line-up that has conceded two 350 plus scores.
