ICC World Cup 2019: Chris Woakes Registers a Historic Record for England

Chris Woakes, England’s fast bowling all-rounder has registered a historic record for the country. Woakes became only the fourth fielder to gulp four catches in a World Cup match after India’s Mohammad Kaif, Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar and Pakistan’s Umar Akmal. Thus, Woakes became the first England player to take four catches in a World Cup game.

Woakes was outstanding in the field as he took a splendid catch to dismiss Imam-ul-Haq. The all-rounder made good ground from long-off to extra cover and took a fine catch while diving to his right. Furthermore, Woakes took another good catch while diving forward to dismiss Babar Azam who played a good knock of 63 runs.

Chris Woakes got another opportunity to take a simple catch to dismiss Mohammad Hafeez. Moreover, Sarfraz Ahmed played a half-hearted pull shot against Chris Woakes and the right-arm seamer took a simple caught and bowl when the ball ballooned on the off-side. Furthermore, Chris Woakes scalped three wickets. However, he was on the expensive as he conceded 71 runs in eight overs.

Meanwhile, Pakistan batsmen were able to crescendo their total to 348 runs after England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mohammad Hafeez top-scored for Pakistan as the right-hander played a fine knock of 84.

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and Babar Azam also scored half-centuries. Ahmed and Azam scored 55 and 63 runs respectively for Pakistan. On the other hand, Moeen Ali scalped three wickets and conceded 50 runs in his 10 overs quota. Mark Wood who was drafted into the team in place of Liam Plunkett snared two wickets and gave away 53 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

Meanwhile, England is currently 224-4 and they required another 125 runs from 87 balls. Joe Root and Jos Buttler are going strong for the hosts as they are currently batting unbeaten on 93 and 69 respectively.
