Shikhar Dhawan

Former Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has backed Shikhar Dhawan to come back stronger. Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup with a thumb injury. The southpaw batsman was hit on his left hand by a fast delivery from Pat Cummins. Dhawan was on 24 at that stage and he went on to score a fine knock of 117 runs from 109 balls.

Subsequently, after the scans, it was discovered that Dhawan had a fractured thumb. In fact, it was expected that Dhawan would be fit again within three weeks but it wasn’t to be.

Big blow for India.

Sachin Tendulkar who has himself played in six World Cups said it must have been heartbreaking for Shikhar Dhawan to miss out on the important tournament. However, Master Blaster wished Dhawan a speedy recovery and told him to make a solid comeback. Dhawan also replied to Sachin Tendulkar’s post.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has been confirmed as the replacement for Shikhar Dhawan. Pant has been in decent form with the bat and he was called in as cover when Dhawan was ruled out. Subsequently, Sachin Tendulkar wished Rishabh Pant all the best and told him to express himself at the big stage. In fact, it would be interesting to note whether Pant will get his chances in the playing XI.

Vijay Shankar was drafted into the playing XI in place of Shikhar Dhawan and the Tamil Nadu all-rounder had done a good job. Meanwhile, KL Rahul had opened the innings with Rohit Sharma. India’s new batting opening pair had added 136 runs for the opening partnership and Rahul had grabbed his opportunity with both hands as he had scored 57 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar took to his Twitter handle to post the message. The post read as, “Feel for you Shikhar. You were playing well & to be injured in the middle of such an important tournament is heartbreaking. I’m sure you’ll come back stronger than ever. Rishabh you’ve been playing well & there can’t be a bigger platform to express yourself. Good luck!”
