The World Cup holds a special place in the folklore of the game. In fact, we often remember the players who have played a significant role in the World Cup. The 12th edition of the World Cup will be held in England and Wales and the opening match will take place between England and South Africa at the Kennington Oval on 30th May.

Meanwhile, there are some players who had performed well in the 2015 edition. However, they could not get in the squad and thus won’t feature in this edition of the league.

Here are the five players who had played a major role in the 2015 World Cup but won’t play in 2019.

Suresh Raina:

India’s southpaw batsman had performed well for the team in the previous edition of the tournament. Suresh Raina had scored 284 runs in the six matches of the competition at an average of 56.80. Furthermore, Raina had scored his runs at a strike rate of 110.08. The left-hander also scored two fifties and one hundred against Zimbabwe.

However, Raina will not feature in the upcoming World Cup. The experienced batsman isn’t in the best of forms and he had last played in the T20I series against England in 2018.

James Faulkner had delivered in the biggest match of the 2015 World Cup. The talisman all-rounder was awarded the Man of the match in the final for taking three wickets in the nine overs he bowled. Moreover, he conceded only 36 runs in his spell.

Faulkner scalped 10 wickets in the six matches he played in the tournament. However, he scored only 44 runs in the four innings he played.

On the other hand, Faulkner veered off the track after the World Cup and hasn’t played in the Australian colours since October 2017.

Wahab Riaz spell to Shane Watson was one of the highlights of the 2015 World Cup. The southpaw pacer had breathed down the neck of Watson and the right-hander had no clue.

The left-handed pacer had bowled with fire as he had scalped 16 wickets in the previous edition of the World Cup. Thus, he was the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan. However, Wahab could not continue in a similar fashion and he was later dropped from the side.

However, Wahab Riaz was called back in Pakistan’s World Cup 2019 squad in the last moment.

Jerome Taylor

Windies fast bowler Jerome Taylor had bowled at the top of his game in the 2015 World Cup. The opening fast bowler had scalped 17 wickets in the seven matches he had played and had played a key role in taking his team to the quarter-final of the coveted tournament.

Thus, the right-arm pacer was the joint fourth highest wicket-taker of the season. However, Taylor could not come up with good performances and he is currently not the part of the Windies World Cup team.

Corey Anderson

The New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson had played a key role in getting his team to the final of the ODI showpiece in 2015. Anderson had snared 14 wickets in the nine matches he had played in the previous edition of the tournament.

Furthermore, the southpaw batsman had scored 233 runs in the eight innings of the quadrennial event. However, bad form showed him the exit doors from the New Zealand team and he is currently not part of the Kiwis team.
