Veteran Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga will fly back home in Sri Lanka after their game against Bangladesh today at Cardiff in the ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, Malinga will come home to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral, who passed away recently.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has had a poor start to their campaign having only three points from the three games. After their 10-wicket loss against New Zealand in their World Cup opener before they came back to win the next tie against Afghanistan by 34 runs. Furthermore, the umpire had to cancel  Sri Lanka’s game against Pakistan due to rain without a ball being played. They need to bounce back in soon if the Lankans want to go deep in the tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed the news on Twitter saying that he will leave for Sri Lanka after the game against Bangladesh. They also state the reason for his departure while confirming that Lasith Malinga will be available for selection in the next match against Australia on June 15.

Lasith Malinga will leave the team following Sri Lanka’s World Cup Game against Bangladesh, which will be played today, as his Mother-In-Law has passed away. He is expected to join the team, before the team’s next game, which will be played against Australia on 15th,” Sri Lank Cricket tweeted.

Meanwhile, Lasith Malinga played a significant role in the only game Sri Lanka won. He claimed three wickets alongside Nuwan Pradeep to script an easy win. The veteran has come to England on the back of a strong performance in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. He will look to make this tournament his own which is likely to be his last World Cup for Sri Lanka.
