Bangladesh’s vice-captain Shakib Al Hasan became the fastest all-rounder to get to the combination of 5000 and 250 wickets in One Day International while playing in team’s World Cup opener against South Africa. After scoring a fine knock of 75 runs from 84 balls with the help of eight fours and one six, Hasan scalped the wicket of Aiden Markram to complete his 250 ODI wickets.

Thus, the talisman all-rounder added another feather to his illustrious career. Shakib Al Hasan completed the record in 199 matches. Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq had got to the same landmark in 234 ODI matches in his career.

Shakib Al Hasan has been a consistent performer.

Furthermore, there are three other all-rounders who are part of the 5000 ODI runs and 250 wickets club. Pakistan former skipper Shahid Afridi took 273 matches, regarded as World’s greatest all-rounder took 296 games whereas Sanath Jayasuriya got there in 304 One Day matches.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is the third southpaw leg-spinner to achieve the milestone of 250 ODI wickets after Daniel Vettori and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Consequently, Shakib Al Hasan has been a consistent performer for the Bangladesh team. Hasan has been instrumental in the success of the team over the years and has thus far scored 5792 runs in his One Day career.

On the other hand, Shakib Hasan played a key role in getting Bangladesh to their highest ODI total in their World Cup opening match against South Africa. Hasan scored 75 and Bangladesh has posted 330 runs at Kennington Oval, London in the fifth match of the ongoing World Cup.

Furthermore, Shakib Al Hasan has bowled eight overs and he has conceded only 37 runs in his spell. Meanwhile, South Africa is currently 229-5 and the Proteas require 98 runs from 58 balls. Thus, Bangladesh has put their noses ahead in the match.

Bangladesh will play their second match against New Zealand at the same venue of Kennington Oval, London.
