South Africa Cricket have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 starting from May 30 in England and Wales. The Proteas are yet to lift the prestigious trophy and this year will be their golden opportunity to win the title. Meanwhile, they have been in good form leading to the World Cup, beating Pakistan and Sri Lanka and will hope to carry the same momentum when they start their campaign.
South Africa goes with the experienced Amla
The selection panel headed by Linda Zondi went with the experience of Hashim Amla for the 12th edition of the quadrennial tournament. The inclusion of Amla will provide South African management with a lot of options. Along with Amla, they have Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock. The wicket-keeper batsman Kock who has been in tremendous form in the IPL will start the innings along with one of the other openers.

The middle-order also looks well set for South Africa. Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy along with Amla if the management opts to open with Markram will be more than enough to put the opponents in trouble. They also have David Miller in their ranks who has struck the ball well in the IPL and will be keen to make this tournament his own.

The 40-year-old leg-spinner Imran Tahir will lead the spin department, and South Africa can also depend on Tabraiz Shamsi if they need a back-up or an ally to Tahir. Moreover, they have an experienced part-timer in JP Duminy who has been a great servant of South African Cricket. The Proteas boast a world-class pace attack and will rely on them to win matches. The management will have plenty of pace options to choose from including Kagiso Rabada, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Dale Steyn, Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius.

The Faf-du Plessis-led side will begin their campaign for the World Cup in the tournament opener against host England on May 30 at the Oval. Meanwhile, this is just a provisional squad and if needed they can alter the team till May 22 without ICC’s permission.
