Australia came up with a fine performance against Sri Lanka in the 20th match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 as they won by 87 runs. The reigning champions came up with a collective effort to maul Sri Lanka. Australia posted a gargantuan score of 334 runs after Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The Australia openers David Warner and Aaron Finch added 80 runs for the opening partnership. David Warner once again struggled with his timing and trudged to 26 runs from 48 balls. However, Aaron Finch was able to hit the ground running. Finch brought his tour de force as he smashed 153 runs from 132 balls – which is now the highest score for Australian captain in World Cup.

Australia comes up with a complete show.
Meanwhile, Aaron Finch and former skipper Steven Smith added a fine partnership of 173 runs. Both the right-handers batted at the top of their game. Finch kept attacking the loose balls whereas Smith showed the maturity to work the ball into the gaps to pick up his singles.
Smith scored 73 runs from 59 balls. On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell played a quickfire 25-ball 46 run knock. However, Australia was unable to end the innings on a high as they lost wickets in the death overs. At one stage, they were looking good for 360-370 but ended on 334.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka had a perfect start to their run-chase. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera were able to hit the ground running. The southpaw opening pair added 115 runs in under 15 overs to give a fine start. However, Perera was dismissed by Mitchell Starc.

Dimuth Karunarante played a captain’s knock of 97 runs to put his team in contention. However, once he got out, Sri Lanka crumbled like a house of cards. Mitchell Starc scalped four wickets and became the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.

Super Duper start to the innings. Best power-play score in this #CWC19. Add to that the fact that Australia has gone in with only 4 frontline bowlers. Game On?? C’mon Sri Lanka…. #AusvSL

Aaron Finch now has the highest WC score by an Australian captain, passing Ponting's 140*. It's a fairly decent knock. #AUSvSL #CWC19

Australia has a bit of a finishing problem. Against Pak and now, against Sri Lanka. Not crossing 350 after the opener scored 150+. #CWC19 #AusvSL

87 in the first 10 overs. And still the asking rate has gone to 7 an over in the 24th over. Wicket isn’t too far, it seems. #CWC19 #AusvSL

There haven't been a single instance of both captains scoring hundreds in the same World Cup match.

Steve Smith's wicket was Lasith Malinga's 100th ODI wicket via 'bowled'. He is only the 5th bowler to bag 100 bowled wickets in ODI cricket. #CWC19 #AUSvSL
