ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts As Bangladesh Proves Too Strong For Afghanistan
Updated - 25 Jun 2019, 02:07 PM
Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan convincingly by 62 runs in the 31st match of the ICC World Cup 2019 at Rose Bowl, Southampton on Monday. The Tigers’ vice-captain Shakib Al Hasan was the star of the show as he took five-wicket haul and scored a fifty.
Thus, the talisman all-rounder became the second player after India’s Yuvraj Singh to bag a fifer and score a fifty in a World Cup match. In fact, Shakib Al Hasan had earlier became the second player after Sanath Jayasuriya to complete 1000 runs and scalp 25 wickets in World Cup history. Hence, it was a dominating performance from the southpaw all-rounder.
Shakib Al Hasan came up with an all-around performance.
Bangladesh posted a fighting score of 262 runs after Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Tigers wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored for the team as the right-hander scored a good knock of 83 runs from 89 balls.
In fact, Bangladesh could not get off to good start as they lost Litton Das early. Tamim Iqbal scored 36 but could not convert his start into a substantial score. However, Shakib Al Hasan continued his good form going as he scored 51 runs. Mosaddek Hossain added the finishing touches to Bangladesh’s innings as the right-hander scored 24-ball 35 with the help of four fours.
On the other hand, Afghanistan got off to a decent start as their openers added 49 runs inside 11 overs. However, Afghanistan old demons once again came back to haunt them. Afghanistan batsmen got off to starts but could not a big score under their bag. But Shakib Al Hasan was superb with the ball as he breathed down the neck of the opposition batters.
Samiullah Shinwari who was playing his first match of the tournament showed the resistance with the bat as he scored runs. However, he could not find support from the other end.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Bangladesh’s win:

I think Bangladesh have enough. They also have the advantage of seeing what works on this track and what doesn't.
