Pakistan defeated England by 14 runs as the sixth match of the ICC World Cup between them went down to the wire at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. As expected it was a high scoring match as Pakistan posted a huge score of 348 runs after Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to put the opposition in. Pakistan who had a forgettable day with the bat against Windies were able to turn the tables as they came up with improved performance.
Pakistan got off to a fine start as their openers added 82 runs to set the foundation for a big score. Imam-ul-Haq scored 44 whereas Fakhar Zaman scored 36. However, Moeen Ali was able to account for both the openers in quick succession when Zaman was stumped by Buttler and Haq was caught brilliantly by Chris at long-off.

The match went down to the wire.
Babar Azam was able to hit the ground running and Mohammed Hafeez got runs from the get-go. Both the stylish right-handers added 88 runs. Azam scored 63 whereas Hafeez top scored with 84 runs. Furthermore, Sarfraz Ahmed provided added the finishing touches with 55 runs. On the other hand, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes scalped three wickets each whereas Mark Wood took two wickets.
Meanwhile, England didn’t have a good start to the run-chase as they lost Jason Roy when he tried to sweep Shadab Khan but was trapped in front.

Pakistan came up with a fine show.
Jonny Bairstow got off to a start but could not convert it into a big score. Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes were dismissed cheaply and England found themselves struggling at 118-4. Root had a second life as Babar Azam fluffed a chance at first slip when the right-hander was only on 14 runs.
However, Joe Root and Jos Buttler were able to set England out of the woods with a fine alliance of 130 runs. Joe Root who is the fulcrum of England’s batting completed his 15th ODI ton and the first of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. Furthermore, Jos Buttler also got to his ninth ODI hundred off just 75 balls. However, Buttler was dismissed soon after completing his hundred when he got an outside edge to short third man.
Here is how Twitter reacted:

Fakhar Zaman wicket – Buttler joins Dhoni school of stumping. Collection close to the stumps, sharp and quick. Makes all the difference in the age of technology. #PAKvENG #ICCCWC2019

Wonder how Buttler feels when he scores slow, 80-ball 100s. Empty and incompetent, I presume.

Lose 4 nil to the Worlds No1 team coming into the World Cup. Get demolished by a team that had to qualify for the CWC in your 1st game. Lose your last 11 completed ODI???s. Take down the No 1 ranked team next game. Never write off Pakistan??????.
