Former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria has heavily criticized India’s bowling unit, stating that they require superior bowlers in order to stand a chance of winning the forthcoming 50-over World Cup. In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia, India suffered a 2-1 loss, with the visitors registering a 21-run victory in the final game played in Chennai.

Moreover, the former cricketer Danish Kaneria also opined that the Indian batsmen struggled against the Australian spinners in the ODI series as the latter were able to turn the ball, unlike Indian spinners who bowl quicker. This observation has highlighted a key area of concern for the Indian team, as spin bowling is considered to be one of the country’s strengths in cricket.

India Have A Failed Bowling Lineup: Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria, in a video posted on his YouTube channel, claimed that India’s bowling line-up had failed and that better bowlers are needed if the team want to succeed in the World Cup. The 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India in October, and the team will be hoping to put together a better performance by then.

“India have a failed bowling lineup. They need better bowlers for the World Cup. These guys can’t win the World Cup for India. I am very sorry, but this can’t be their bowling attack. As there is no clarity over Jasprit Bumrah’s availability, they will have to give some opportunities to Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and T Natarajan,” Danish Kaneria said.

“They say that the Indian batters are very good players of spin. The Indian batters face Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal in the nets, who don’t turn the ball as they just bowl quick. The Australian spinners turn the ball, which is why they made it difficult for India,”

Led by Rohit Sharma the hosts suffered a 1-2 defeat in a three-match ODI series against Australia, as they failed to chase down a target of 270 runs in the series-deciding match in Chennai. Despite winning the first match in Mumbai, the hosts lost the next two ODIs in Visakhapatnam and Chennai, resulting in a series victory for Australia.

It is noteworthy that Men In Blue’s previous ODI series loss at home was also against Australia, when the visitors led by Aaron Finch, staged a remarkable comeback from 0-2 down to win the five-match series 3-2 in March 2019.
