The way the Indian selection panel has handled Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as far as the T20I team is concerned, many believe that the senior players will not be playing the shortest format anymore.

Both players were dropped from the T20I team immediately after India crashed out at the semifinal stage of the T20 World Cup last year. At first, it looked like the senior players were rested. However, they are yet to play any T20I match since the World Cup last year. Neither Rohit Sharma nor Kohli are currently in contention to make a comeback to the T20I side.

Many believe that the selectors have finally decided to move on from the senior players and are trying out the youngsters ahead of the next T20 World Cup. The next edition of the World Cup is scheduled to be played in West Indies and USA next year. With Rohit Sharma out, Hardik Pandya has been leading the team in the shortest format.

Rohit Sharma on playing T20Is:

Rohit Sharma has finally broken his silence on not being a part of India’s T20I side. Speaking at a recent event, the India Test and ODI captain stated that the main reason behind his absence from the T20I team is the workload management. Rohit Sharma said that it is ‘not possible’ for some players to play all formats, especially with the ODI World Cup ahead.

“At the moment I think it was made clear in the past that it’s a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it’s not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided on just looking at some players’ workload that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I definitely fall in that (category) as well,” Rohit said at an event in the United States of America, as per Indian Express.

Well, the fans can then expect Rohit Sharma and other senior players to make a return to the T20I team after the end of the ODI World Cup. The World Cup will take place next year in the Caribbean and the United States.
