Fans on Twitter were left fuming after Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team stunned India Women’s National Cricket Team to register a historic win in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, July 16.
Bangladesh comprehensively won and registered their first-ever win in history against India in the Women’s ODI. This was also India’s first loss in the ICC Women’s Championship, 2022-25.

India Women’s National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. They managed to restrict Bangladesh to 152, thanks to Amanjot Kaur’s sensational 4-wicket haul. Also, Devika Vaidya bagged two wickets while Deepti Sharma picked up one wicket.

Chasing a revised target of 154 due to the rain during Bangladesh’s innings, India openers Smriti Mandhana and Priya Punia started off on a positive note. However, they were cleaned up for 11 and 10 by fiery pacer Marufa Akter.

Then came a batting horror show as the Indian batters were unable to survive against the Bangladesh bowling unit while chasing a low total.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bundled out for just 113 in the 36th over to face an embarrassing defeat by 40 runs. Star batter Harmanpreet Kaur registered just 5 runs during the run-chase while Jemimah Rodrigues scored just 10 runs.
From Bangladesh, young Marufa Akter finished her remarkable spell with a 4-wicket haul while Rabeya Khan got a 3-wicket haul. Also, Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter picked one wicket each to play a crucial role in their side’s victory.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be looking to bounce back in the second ODI, which will be held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on July 19. Earlier in the T20I series, India had won the first two low-scoring thrillers before losing the third T20I.
Here’s How Twitter Reacted To India Women’s Defeat:
Saw an outside chance for Bangladesh to defend the target on this pitch, but still largely didn’t expect India to lose with 10 players in the side who could bat.
This is well & truly shocking.

India should be embarrassed it’s just not a loss. It should be a wake up call for them. They need to really rectify their mistakes but again they don’t EVER learn. Batting toh bangladesh ne bhi yahi ki thi still lost to them by 40 runs?

BANGLADESH WOMEN HAVE DONE IT ??
India Women bowled out inside 36 overs and failed to chase a low total of 153 runs. Bangladesh Women were just too good, India were lucky in first two WT20Is too and then lost the third match.
What’s going wrong with Indian cricket? #BANWvINDW pic.twitter.com/7V8LgJ2Ti4
