India Blind team is yet to receive the prize money which was promised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Indian board had promised to give an amount of INR 1 crores to the Blind team after they went on to win the World Cup. The blind team had won the 40-over tournament for the fifth time in succession.
However, the blind team which won the World Cup in January has only received an amount of INR 25 Lakh. Furthermore, the blind team hasn’t received any facilities which were also promised by the Indian board.
Unfair on the part of the richest board.
Thus, the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) is upset by the fake promises of the Indian board.
CABI’s annual general meeting was held in the last weekend at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium. Therefore, the 22 affiliated units were surprised that the BCCI has failed to live up to the promises it had made.
“It is quite sad as the BCCI promised to give us a grant of Rs 1 crore but we have received only Rs 25 lakh so far. Our state units created an issue at the AGM when they were informed about this. There has been no development since we last met the BCCI officials on March 1 in Mumbai,” CABI president GK Mahantesh told mid-day over the phone from Bangalore yesterday.
Meanwhile, BCCI’s former president, Anurag Thakur had promised to give CABI an amount of INR 1 crore every year after the team won their second T20I World Cup. This promise was also NOT fulfilled by BCCI.
John David, secretary of CABI said they were hopeful of getting the services after their meeting with BCCI which was held four months ago.
“After our meeting with the BCCI four months ago, we were hopeful that our blind cricket team will get professional coaching and access to top facilities.
David went on to add they have sent the reminder emails to the Indian board. However, there is no positive response from the board.
“We have sent a few reminder emails to the BCCI, but there has been no response. Our members were shocked when they were informed that the CABI has received only Rs 25 lakh from the BCCI so far,” lamented David
