Former Indian fast bowler Karsan Ghavri believes India have found the next Zaheer Khan in the rookie pacer, Khaleel Ahmed. The southpaw fast bowler from Rajasthan has had a good start to his career. Ahmed was able to hit the ground running in the Asia Cup. The left-arm fast bowler had scalped three wickets on his ODI debut against Hong Kong as he had bowled with fire.

Furthermore, he was also able to impress with his skills in the ODI series against the Windies. In the six ODIs, Ahmed has taken 11 wickets and has also taken three T20I wickets in three matches. Thus, Ahmed has had a dream start to his career.

Khaleel Ahmed has had a good start.

Meanwhile, being a left-arm bowler gives an advantage to Ahmed as India have only right-arm bowlers. Khaleel has shown the promise to do well as he can get the ball to move at a brisk pace.

“Khaleel Ahmed is a bright prospect for India. He’s got good control of his line, length and has good accuracy. He’s been able to swing the ball with that kind of speed which is very important because pace is not everything. If Khaleel can generate speed and swing consistently, he’s even more dangerous,” Ghavri told CricketCountry.

“He has got the ability to swing the ball both ways – the in-swinger, out-swinger – and he’s got a good bouncer and generates good speed. He’s a very versatile bowler and can do well for India provided he looks after his body and stays away from injuries.”

Therefore, Karsan Ghavri believes India have found a good left-arm pacer after the retirement of Zaheer Khan. The former fast bowler was India’s one of best pacers.

“Yes, to a certain extent. Zaheer Khan was a very good fast bowler for India. If somebody has taken more than 200 wickets [Zaheer took 282 wickets in 200 ODIs], he has to be good. After a long time after Zaheer Khan, India has found another good left-handed fast bowler,”

Meanwhile, it would be too early to compare Khaleel Ahmed with Zaheer Khan, who was India’s best pacer. Ahmed has got off to a good start and it would be imperative for him to keep going in the same manner.
