On Wednesday, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the new selection panel will announce the ODI Squad for the upcoming series against South Africa at home. The three-match ODI series starts from March 12 in Dharamsala. Lucknow and Kolkata will host the second and third game on March 15 and March 18 respectively.
The Men in Blue are coming to the short ODI series after a bitter-sweet month-long tour to New Zealand where they only managed to win a single series out of possible three across all formats.
Though the Kohli-led side scripted history by claiming their first T20I series on New Zealand soil, the visitors received a heavy bashing in the ODIs and Test series to extend their winless games to five games on the international circuit.
Interviews will be conducted: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly, who arrived at the cricketing body’s headquarter in Mumbai for the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting earlier today said that the three-member jury constituting former cricketers Madan Lal, RP Singh, and Sulakshana Naik will conduct interviews to replace outgoing chief selectors MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda.
Ganguly also stated that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will carry out interviews on Wednesday (March 4) to fill the positions of two national selectors.
“The interviews will be conducted tomorrow,” Ganguly told ANI.
India will play the series opener at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on March 12.
India ready to face South Africa in ODIs:
While the first ODI will be played in Dharamsala, Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium will host the penultimate clash (on March 15) following the third and final ODI which is slated to be contested at the famous Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 18.
The CAC was appointed in January to pick the replacements of outgoing chief selector MSK Prasad and fellow panel member Gagan Khoda.
Coming to the eligibility criteria set by the BCCI, a candidate ought to have featured in either 7 Tests and 30 First-Class matches or 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class games for senior selector’s post.
