Washington Sundar, Basil Thampi have also been called back to the side.

Both of them played in the series against Sri Lanka before being dropped.

Vijay Shankar has been handed his maiden T20I callup.

The all-rounder was called to the Test side between the Sri Lanka Test series but did not play.

He is expected to make his international debut in the series as he is going in place of Hardik Pandya.

Shankar’s continues selection also means that selectors are looking at him as the second all-rounder.

Kohli, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav are the players who have been rested.

Though Kuldeep’s dropping also indicates that selectors are probably not looking at him for prospect in T20I cricket.

The absence of Maybank Agarwal is the biggest highlight of the selection meeting.

The Karnataka opener was the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy and is leading the charts in Vijay Hazare Trophy too.

His innings of 140 and 80 came in front of selectors at Feroz Shah Kotla but he will be continued to be tested in Deodhar Trophy and IPL.

The T20I series will start on March 6, with India taking on Sri Lanka.

The final of the tri-series will be played on March 18.

Bangladesh is the third team in the T20I series.

After the series, Indian players will have a rest of two weeks before they join their respective IPL teams.

Post that, Indian team will kick a mega season which will end after 2019 World Cup.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (Capt), Shikhar Dhawan (vc), KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Vijay Shankar, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohammad Siraj, Rishabh Pant (wk)
