BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, on Sunday, confirmed that India would play a day-night Test against Australia and England. After showing hesitation for a long time, India finally played their first-ever day-night Test in November when they hosted Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. The world number one side had gone on to win the match by an innings and 46 runs.

Towards the end of this year, Virat Kohli & Co. will tour Australia for a four-match Test and three-match ODI series. It will be followed by the home series against England where both the teams will play a total of five Tests against each other. The series against England will be India’s last in the ongoing ICC Test Championship.

One of those five matches against England will be a day-night Test and it is most likely to be played at the refurbished Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera. The decision was reportedly taken at BCCI’s apex council meeting in Delhi on Sunday.

“Day-night Test will happen and we will make a public announcement-the second Test against England next year. Yes, against Australia also,” Ganguly told reporters after the Apex Council meeting.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium which is also known as Motera Cricket stadium is set to become the largest cricket stadium in the world. The cricket facility will have a seating capacity of 1,10,000 people.

The Sardar Patel Stadium, which is popularly known as Motera Stadium, has not hosted an international game since 2014. The ODI between India and Sri Lanka on November 6, 2014 was the last international game at the Ahmedabad-based stadium. The stadium will be the largest cricket stadium in the world once it reopens.
