The Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) has shortlisted the final list of candidates for the position of senior national selector.  The position of BCCI chairman of selectors is up for grabs with MSK Prasad finishing his four-year term last November. Since then, Prasad has been on an extension along with former India and Rajasthan batsman Gagan Khoda.

While there has been plenty of talks surrounding who will replace Prasad and Khoda in the selection committee, the BCCI has finally shortlisted four candidates for the two vacant positions. The two selectors for the five-man panel will be picked by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Nail.

Here are the candidates short-listed for the last round of interview for senior national selector post:

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is the oldest among the list of people to have applied for the selectors’ role. While he was known for his leg-spin, he did not really have a long international career. Sivaramakrishnan played just 9 Tests and 16 ODIs. In Tests, he picked up 26 wickets while in ODIs, he has 15 scalps to his name.

Venkatesh Prasad:

Venkatesh Prasad is one of the most experienced candidates for the post. The former India pacer has experience not only as a player in international cricket but also as a coach and the chief junior selector. He represented India in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs, picking up a total of 292 wickets.

Rajesh Chauhan:

Rajesh Chauhan played in 21 Tests and 35 ODIs for India from 1993 to 1998, picking up a total of 76 wickets.

Ajit Agarkar was the last among the candidates to retire and has most international matches to his name. He played 26 Tests and 191 ODIs and picked up 58 Test wickets and 288 ODI wickets. He also played 4 T20Is. With the bat, he scored nearly 2,000 international runs.

The interview process is likely to take place within the next 10 days and an official announcement is expected to be made by the end of February. The newly-elected selection committee’s first assignment will be the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting from March 12.
