How many times we have seen that MS Dhoni’s tips have helped the Indian spinners in getting the better of the opposition batsmen? Certainly, the number cannot be counted on fingertips. Dhoni’s brilliant mind was once again in action in the second One Day International against Australia at Nagpur. The talisman gloveman asked Kuldeep Yadav to not pitch the ball against Glenn Maxwell. Dhoni said, “Marne ki Koshish kr rha hai, aage nhi dalna, dalte reh” (“He is trying to hit, don’t pitch the ball up, keep bowling”).

The next ball Kuldeep Yadav bowled kept a shed low and Glenn Maxwell’s woodwork was disturbed. Subsequently, Dhoni pointed to Yadav that he was exactly saying the same. Maxwell was a crucial wicket for the hosts as the combative right-hander is in fine form. The right-hander had scored 56 and 113 in the T20I as he was the major difference between the two sides.

Dhoni was at his best.

Meanwhile, India was able to take the thrilling contest by eight runs after Vijay Shankar held his nerve in the final over. Shankar had 11 runs in the bank and he spent only two and took as many wickets. In fact, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder had also scored a fluent 46, which must have added to his confidence.

Kuldeep Yadav continued to breathe down the neck of the Australian batsmen as he scalped three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah was once again right on the money as he took two wickets and conceded only 29 runs in his 10 overs quota.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni also took a sharp catch down the leg side to dismiss Shaun Marsh. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli scored his 40th ODI hundred to help India post 250 runs in their batting innings. Thus, it was a fine collective effort from the Men in Blue to double their lead in the series.
