India vs Australia 2nd ODI: Twitter Reacts As Hosts Thrash Visitors To Go 2-0 Up
Updated - 19 May 2019, 06:10 PM
Riding on Kuldeep Yadav‘s sensational hat-trick, India thrashed Australia by 50 runs in the second ODI at Eden Gardens to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.
After restricting India to 252, the visitors made a poor start as both of their openers- Hilton Cartwright and David Warner- were dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar cheaply.
Captain Steve Smith and Travis Head then steadied the ship with a 76-run stand before the former was sent back by Yuzvendra Chahal for 39. India then further strengthened its grip on the game when Glenn Maxwell was brilliantly stumped by MS Dhoni off Chahal.
A 22-run stand between Smith and Marcus Stoinis calmed down the nerves in the Australian dressing room before Hardik Pandya sent back the former for 59 to all but seal the visitors’ fate. Kuldeep Yadav piled further miseries on the World Cup-holders when he took a hat-trick in his eighth over to leave them reeling at 148 for 8.
However, the visitors were still not out of the race with Marcus Stoinis keeping them in the hunt with a brave knock. The allrounder remained not out on 62 but ran out of partners as Australia were all out for 202.
Earlier, a middle-order collapse saw the hosts putting up a modest total after being put on the path to a big total following a century-plus stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli. After Rohit Sharma was out cheaply, Rahane and Kohli laid the foundation for a good total with an 102-run stand before the former was run-out for 55. However, India lost wickets in a cluster in the middle orders and despite Kohli scoring 92, they could post only 252 in the allotted 50 overs.
