India vs England 2018, First ODI - Statistical Highlights

India, on Thursday, thrashed England by 8 wickets to go one nil up in the three-match series. Barring the first ten overs of England’s innings, the Men in Blue thoroughly dominated the contest to emerge victorious. Kuldeep Yadav was once again the destructor-in-chief- picking up a career-best 6 for 25 to blow away England.

As a result, England were all out for a modest 268 despite being 71 for no loss after ten. In reply, India chased down the total with utmost ease in the 41st over. Rohit Sharma once again starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten ton while Virat Kohli scored 75 as the duo batted England out of the game.

With the game now done and dusted, we take a look at some interesting numbers and stats:

1. Kuldeep became the first chinaman spinner to take a 6-wicket haul in ODI cricket. His bowling figures are the best for a left-arm spinner in 50-over cricket. The record was previously held by Murali Karthik who had taken 6 for 27 against Australia in 2007.

2. Virat Kohli led India for the 50th time in ODIs on Thursday. In doing so, he became the 7th to lead India in 50 ODIs, after MS Dhoni (199), Mohammad Azharuddin (174), Sourav Ganguly (146), Rahul Dravid (79), Kapil Dev (74), and Sachin Tendulkar (73).

3. Kohli now has been stumped out on three occasions in International cricket and all of them have come in ODIs.  The other two instances were in 2010 and 2011 against Bangladesh and the West Indies respectively .

4. Kuldeep’s 6/25 are the 4th best bowling figures by an Indian in ODI cricket. His bowling figures are the best for any spinner in an ODI in England.

5. Rohit now has 18 ODI tons and 16 while opening the innings. Only Sachin Tendulkar (45) and Sourav Ganguly (19) scored more ODI tons while opening.

6. Virat and Rohit have 10 150-plus stands in ODIs between them. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly pair (12) have more 150+ stands in this format.

7. The 14 century partnerships between Rohit and Kohli pair are the 2nd most by an Indian pair in ODI cricket after 26 100-run stands between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

8. Ben Stokes completed his fifty off 102 balls which is the slowest by an England player in the last 13 years. His fifty is the 2nd slowest ODI fifty by an England player in the 21st century behind Paul Collingwood’s 108-ball fifty in 2005.

9. Rohit’s unbeaten 137 in this game is the highest individual ODI score by an Indian against England in England. Rohit surpassed Virat Kohli’s 107 from the 2011 Cardiff ODI.
