After a disturbing ODI series against Australia for Shikhar Dhawan, it seems like he is in a fine nick against New Zealand. He is knocking out New Zealand bowlers at ease by finding the boundary fence more often than not. During the course, Shikhar Dhawan scored his 5000th ODI run in his cricketing career to rewrite quite a few records after his name.

Shikhar Dhawan becomes the second quickest Indian cricketer to reach the mark. Virat Kohli is at top of the list, who did it in 114 innings while the stylish southpaw took 118 innings. In fact, Shikhar has got a good chance in surpassing Virat but, unfortunately, he failed to get runs in the last 4-5 innings.

Shikhar Dhawan reached the milestone in 118 innings:

Dhawan surpassed another southpaw of India, who led the Indian National Cricket Team to overseas success, Sourav Ganguly. The former skipper brought his 5000 ODI runs in 126 innings.

Following Ganguly, it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who took the number 4 position in the chart. He knocked them in 135 innings. In fact, the fourth place has also got the ownership of Gautam Gambhir, who also scored in 135 innings. Overall, Shikhar Dhawan is the fifth quickest to reach the mark and 13th Indian to do so.

Coming to the match, initially, it was New Zealand, who won the toss and chose to bat first. However, it turned out to be a poor selection, as Indian bowlers wreaked havoc at Napier. Initially, Shami knocked out both the openers while Chahal-Kuldeep Combo rattled the middle-order defence.

Kane Williamson was their only batsman, who looked determined while tackling Indian bowling attack. He scored a brilliant 64 runs, which helped New Zealand put 157 runs on the board.

In reply, Indian openers started things beautifully. In particular, it was Shikhar Dhawan, who went after Kiwis bowlers to give a solid start for the team. At the time of Dinner break, India scored 41/0 in 9 overs. Dhawan is on 29* while Rohit scored 11*.
