India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: Twitter Reacts As India Restrict Visitors To Modest Total
Updated - 31 May 2019, 04:10 PM
Team India bounced back from the shocking defeat in the last game in style as they restricted New Zealand to 230 for 9 in the ongoing do-or-die clash at Pune. Bhuvneshwar Kumar starred with the ball for the hosts, taking 3 for 45 while Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets each.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s decision to bat first turned out to be a disastrous one as India’s pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah gave India a flying start. The pacers not only checked the scoring rate right from the very start but also took quick wickets to set the tone for their team.
By the time the seventh over ended, the Kiwis were reeling at 27 for 3 with their top-three failing to deliver again. It brought together last match’s heroes Tom Latham and Ross Taylor. However, the duo could not replicate that performance as Taylor departed cheaply after edging a short ball from Hardik Pandya behind the stumps. The partnership was worth 31 runs.
Latham and Henry Nicholls then steadied the ship but just when it looked like the duo had got a measure of things, the former perished while trying the sweep shot. Axar Patel was the bowler who ended the promising 60-run stand between the two. The fifty-plus stand was followed by another handy stand between Nicholls and Colin de Grandhomme but New Zealand’s hopes of posting a competitive total took a big blow when India took three quick wickets to leave them reeling at 188 for 8.
However, Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee then stitched together a 32-run stand for the ninth wicket to help the visitors post a decent total.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the innings:
Good day for India with the ball after an off day in Mumbai. New Zealand way below where they would have liked to be

Kiwis have scrambled past 200 against fine bowling by India. But pitch hasnt looked like 330+ track disgraced curator Salgaokar predicted

Shocked! What has happened to this world! Curator lied even after taking money. Par score of 337 doesn't seem possible. #IndvNz

I have been saying this for a while. When spinners are on, just ask the commentators to shut up and turn up the Dhoni microphone. #IndvNZ

This is now an outstanding opening spell, another outstanding opening spell dare I say, from Bhuvaneswar and Bumrah.
