India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20: Player Ratings

The Indian Cricket team put up a clinical performance in the 1st T20 to bowl out the visitors Sri Lanka within 87 runs after posting 180 runs on the board to go 1-0 up in the three-match T20 series. India was put to bat first after Sri Lankan captain Thisara Perera won the toss. India fielded a relatively young side with the team management giving rest to many senior cricketers under the leadership of stand-in captain Rohit Sharma.
Lokesh Rahul, who lost his place from the Test squad got India off to a flier as he scored 61 runs in 48 balls and was well supported by MS Dhoni and Manish Pandey at the death overs. Dhoni and Pandey hammered the ball all around the park as they shared a 68-run partnership in just 33 balls to take the score to 180.
The Sri Lankan batsmen struggled against a disciplined bowling attack as Yuzvendra Chahal bamboozled the Lankan batsmen to bag four crucial wickets as he was adjudged the man of the match. He was well supported by Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav as they picked up 3 and two wickets respectively. Left-handed Upul Tharanga tried to take the attack back to Indian bowlers but was undone by a beauty from Chahal as they fell 93 runs short.

Rohit Sharma ( 5/10): The stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t have a good stint with the bat as he got out cheaply for 17 runs after getting a start; however, he led the team to successive win as he rotated the bowlers to perfection. Rohit will be keen to regain his form from the ODI series before the South Africa series.
KL Rahul (8/10): After missing out from the Test team, KL Rahul utilized his opportunity to full as he topped the batting chart with a well made 61 from 48 deliveries with the help of 7 boundaries and a six to lay the platform for the middle-orders.

Shreyas Iyer (6/10): The young batsman from Mumbai carried his good form from the ODI series as he got a good start scoring 24 runs from just 20 balls; however failed to make it big as he was outdone by some extra bounce off Nuwan Pradeep.
Dinesh Karthik (0/10): The middle-order batsman Karthik didn’t get an opportunity to bat as Dhoni, and Manish Pandey dominated the middle overs. He will be keen to make a mark when he gets an opportunity to bat.
MS Dhoni (8.5/10): The veteran MS Dhoni once again proved his criticizers wrong as he hammered the bowl in the end overs to help India reach 180. He scored 39 runs in just 22 balls with a strike rate of 177.27. Dhoni effected four dismissals and once proved why he irreplaceable in this current Indian line-up.

Manish Pandey (9/10): The Karnataka batsman muscled the ball as he played some delightful shot to help India post a massive total on the scoreboard alongside Dhoni. Pandey struck the ball at 177.78 scoring 32 runs in just 18 balls with the help of 2 boundaries and 2 six.
Hardik Pandey (8/10): The young all-rounder started the innings for India with the ball in place of regular Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was given a rest for this tour. Pandya was economical all throughout as he bagged three wickets as he gave away only 29 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Jaydev Unadkat (5.5/10): The left-arm pacer had a good return to the Indian team as he removed Niroshan Dickwella in the second over. Although he didn’t complete his quota but was economical as he gave away only seven runs in the two overs he bowled.

Kuldeep Yadav (8.5/10): The new spinning duo of Chahal and Kuldeep has been doing wonders for India as they are picking up wickets consistently in the middle overs and keeping a check on the overflow of runs. Kuldeep once rose to the occasion as he picked two wickets giving away only 18 runs in his quota.
Yuzvendra Chahal (9.5/10): The young leg-spinner’s magical run continues as he once again bagged four crucial wickets to castle the Sri Lankan innings. Chahal has had a dream run in the limited overs game and was adjudged the man of the match for his match-winning effort.

Jasprit Bumrah (4/10): The unconventional Bumrah who had successfully done the death bowlers had a rare day in the business when he went wicketless. However, it didn’t have any impact as other rose to the occasion to bundle the visitors for 87 runs.
