Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slammed blistering centuries as India thrashed Windies by eight wickets in the first One-Day International.

The game looked to have headed for a close finish when Windies posted a challenging 322 for 8. Riding on a stunning 78-ball 106 run knock from Shimron Hetmyer, the visitors posted a daunting total. In reply, India were off to a shaky start. They lost their in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan for just 4.

But from thereon, it was just an one way traffic as Kohli and Rohit took the Windies attack to the cleaners. The two added 246 runs for the second wicket to bat the Caribbean outfit out of the game. Kohli was dismissed after scoring 140 while Rohit remained unbeaten on 152 as India chased down the total inside 43 overs.

With the game now all done and dusted, we are taking a look at all the interesting numbers and stats:

1. The century in Guwahati was Shimron Hetmyer’s third in 13 games. He thus became the first Windies player to score three ODI tons before turning 22. Hetmyer is overall the 11th player with three or more ODI tons before turning 22.

2. Virat Kohli’s 140 was his 14th hundred as India’s ODI captain. Only Ricky Ponting has scored more hundreds as ODI captain than Virat Kohli. Ponting, who led Australia to two World Cup titles, scored 22 hundreds in 230 ODIs.

3. During the knock, Kohli also breached the 2,000-run mark in international cricket this year. He thus became the 4th player to score 2000+ International runs in four consecutive years. He is also the 4th player with 2000+ International runs in five or more different calendar years. The Indian skipper is the first to complete 2000 International runs in the ongoing year.

4. The 246-run stand between Kohli and Rohit Sharma is India’s highest partnership in ODIs against the Windies.

5. Rohit now holds the record for scoring the most number of 150+ scores in the ODI format. The 152-run knock was his sixth 150-plus score in ODIs. He thus went past Sachin Tendulkar and David Warner who have five each.

6. Kohli now has eight centuries while chasing 300-plus totals in ODIs which is the most by any player. The next in the list is Kumar Sangakkara who scored four tons during such chases.

7. Marlon Samuels became the 8th player to be dismissed for a duck in the 200th ODI of his career. He is the 2nd player from Windies to bag a duck in the 200th ODI.

8. Rohit’s knock was studded with eight sixes. This is the 4th time he hit eight or more sixes in an ODI game. Only Chris Gayle (5) has hit 8+ sixes in an ODI inning more often than Rohit. Among Indians, only MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan hit 8+ sixes in an ODI inning and they have done it once each.
