India’s former skipper MS Dhoni is standing at the door of another milestone. The talisman right-hander has scored 9999 ODI runs while playing in the Indian colors. Therefore, Dhoni requires a solitary run to complete 10,000 ODI runs for India. Consequently, Dhoni will become the fifth Indian batsman to reach the illustrious feat. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli have already achieved the landmark.

In fact, MS Dhoni has thus far scored 10,173 runs in his ODI career. However, Dhoni’s 174 runs have come while playing for Asia XI. Furthermore, Dhoni has scored his runs at an average of 50.11 which is a remarkable feat. Dhoni has batted at number six for the most part of his career.

A lower order batsman is always required to bat in the topmost gear to finish off the innings on a fine note. Whether it is setting up a target or chasing one, Dhoni has always provided the finishing touches to the team. Thus, to carry an average of above 50 is a special performance from former Indian captain.

However, Dhoni’s recent form hasn’t been that great which has put his place under the scanner. Dhoni has felt the brunt as he has failed to rotate strike at regular intervals. Therefore, Dhoni strike rate has considerably gone down.

Furthermore, Dhoni was dropped from the T20I side for the three-match series against Windies and Australia. The next year World T20 is in 2020 and thus selectors are looking at the next generation of T20 players.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has been a great servant for Indian cricket. He would like to find back his Midas Touch and it is crucial for India that MS is at the top of his game.
