It was a sensational hundred on the other day by the 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw. The strokes he displayed have been a treat for the cricket fanatics and justified his selection in Test cricket as well. Meanwhile, the legendary, Sunil Gavaskar was left impressed with the Mumbaikar’s application.

On Thursday, the flamboyant batsman received the cap from the India skipper, Virat Kohli to become the 293rd Test player for India. Thankfully, he didn’t wait for his turn, as India won the toss and Prithvi Shaw got the chance to face the first ball of the match.

India have got a terrific opening batsman now in the form of Prithvi Shaw – Sunil Gavaskar

After facing the first ball of the game, the youngster never looked tense, as he went on to smash his maiden hundred. Speaking of the same, the former Indian opener quoted he is very happy for the young champ.

Further, he went on to say by adding Prithvi Shaw exploited the conditions to his favour brilliantly. He felt the pitch had been the paradise for the batsmen, but lauded the effort by Prithvi Shaw, who finely scored runs.

”Prithvi Shaw showed he belonged to the Test level and the West Indies bowlers gave him some loose deliveries to get him going. It was a very good pitch to bat on but having said that, you still have to get runs and he did that in style,” Gavaskar told India Today.

“I am very happy for him… India has got a terrific opening batsman now. But there will be some very stern tests ahead. The opposition does not know about you, to begin with, but they start preparing for you as you play more and more,” he said.

However, as Sunil Gavaskar opined, there are few stern tests in the line for the youngster. Perhaps, he already booked his ticket to Australia, but his real mettle will come to know when he faces Australians on bouncy tracks. Nevertheless, Prithvi Shaw got the right technique to deal with it.
