India’s interim captain Rohit Sharma is on the verge of breaking his full-time skipper Virat Kohli’s record. Rohit has thus far scored 2092 runs in the shortest version of the game. Therefore, Rohit Sharma is hot on the heels of Virat Kohli who has scored 2102 runs in the T20I format. Subsequently, the Indian opener needs another 11 runs to leapfrog Virat Kohli.

After scoring the required runs, Rohit will become India’s leading run-scorer in the T20I edition. Meanwhile, the flamboyant right-hander has played 85 matches to score these runs. On the other hand, Virat Kohli has just taken 62 matches to score 2102 runs.

Rohit and Virat will go neck to neck in T20Is.

However, Virat Kohli is yet to score a hundred in the shortest format of the game as his best score is 90 runs whereas Rohit Sharma has already amassed three centuries. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina is the third highest run-getter for the Indian team in T20I with 1605 runs.

Virat Kohli will return to action for the T20I series against Australia. The first T20I against Australia will take place on 21st November. Therefore, Rohit Sharma has two more matches to build on his lead.

Rohit has scored 728 runs in the last 23 T20I matches since January 2017. Thus, India’s opener is ruling the roost in the white ball format. In fact, there is no denying the fact that Rohit Sharma is the most improved batsman in the last five years in limited overs cricket.

Rohit is also selected for the four-match Test series against Australia. Therefore, the stylish batsman will like to make the most of his opportunity in the red ball version.

The right-hander could only score six runs in the first T20I against the Windies. He was dismissed by Oshane Thomas who got the ball to jag back in to take the faint edge to the wicketkeeper.

The second T20I will take place in Lucknow and Rohit Sharma will have his opportunity to leapfrog Virat Kohli’s tally of runs.
