The 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw scored a brilliant century on his debut Test taking India to a score big with the help of veteran Cheteshwar Pujara against the Windies in Rajkot.
Brilliant Shaw hit maiden Test ton
The entire country knew that Prithvi Shaw would make his debut in Rajkot against the Windies. They also knew he had taken the Under-19s to a World Cup title and scored a century on Ranji Trophy debut. However, Shaw became the 293rd cricketer to make his Test debut for India, as he was handed his cap in the first game of the two-match series.
India after winning the toss elected to bat first but couldn’t give an excellent start. KL Rahul departed without scoring a single run. From there on, debutant Prithvi Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara took the initiative to score runs. Shaw broke some fabulous records in his debut match against the Windies side which kept the entire nation screaming his name in ecstasy.
Moreover, Prithvi Shaw also became the second youngest batsman to score a Test century as an opener. Shaw also gained the record of being the youngest Indian to score a Test century.
Previously, Prithvi Shaw also became the first Indian cricketer to score a century on debut in the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. However, Sachin Tendulkar also scored a century on his Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debut, but the legendary batsman had to wait for 13 games to score his first Test century.
Meanwhile, India had gone past the 200-mark with the help of Pujara and Shaw. They partnered brilliantly for the second wicket scoring 209 runs with the help of 31 boundaries.
Here is the Twitter reaction:
Congratulations to Prithvi Shaw for a hundred on debut. Love the fact that he can score at a strike rate of 100 just batting instinctively without looking to over attack or by taking risks. ????#PrithviShaw

The only other 'Shaw' to play Test cricket was England's Alfred Shaw, who had the distinction of delivering the first ever ball in Test cricket on March 15, 1877.#INDvWI#PrithviShaw
