The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have surprisingly left out Dinesh Karthik as they named the ODI squad for the first two games against Windies.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is back after a short rest to lead the ODI tea while Rohit Sharma will slot back as the vice-captain. On the other hand, young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant earned his debut call. Pant has been in scintillating form and will look to continue it in the limited-overs.

Surprisingly, India announced strong squad despite Windies sending their second string side. Perhaps, BCCI doesn’t want to take the risk, as Windies team has always been the tough fights in this format of the game. However, the surprise omission of Dinesh Karthik has drawn eyeballs from all corner.

Since his return to the squad, Karthik has done significantly well batting in the middle-order. He did well leading India to the victory in the Nidahas Trophy with a six earlier this year. Moreover, he was one of the strong contenders for the No 4 spot in the upcoming World Cup.

The ODI series will start from October 21 following the culmination of the two-match Test series.

Since the announcement of the squad, BCCI was at the heart of many criticisms over the omission of the Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman.

Here is how the Twitter reacted with the omission of Dinesh Karthik from the first two ODI’s against Windies:
