India vs Windies 2018: Twitter Reacts as Mayank Agarwal Earns his Maiden India Call-Up

The Karnataka cricketer, Mayank Agarwal earned his maiden India call-up for the two-match Tests series against Windies starting from October 4.
Meanwhile, despite ignored for the last two Tests against England, Agarwal didn’t lose hope. He continued with his job as he scored a well-made 90 in the two-day practice game against Windies. However, it was his body of work, rather than Saturday’s knock, that earned him a maiden call-up.
Along with Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari retained their spot in the squad. While Vihari made his debut in the last Test against England, Shaw is yet to get his India cap. Furthermore, Mohammed Siraj also earned his maiden India call-up. He has been in the reckoning for the last few months doing spectacularly well for India A side.
Mayank Agarwal, meanwhile, has been knocking on the door with a bucketful of runs — over 2,000 across all formats last season. If the selectors needed further proof of his rich vein of form, Agarwal produced it with a double hundred against South Africa A and a century during a quadrangular series this season. It forced chief selector MSK Prasad to say that the Karnataka batsman will get his due soon.

Talking to Indian Express after the call-up, Mayank Agarwal noted that there is still a long way to go and this is just the beginning.
“My hard work has paid off but there is a long way to go,” Agarwal said to The Indian Express on Sunday. “It is just a start. I will try to keep the same momentum if I get a chance to play for India,” he added.
Rajkot will host the first Test starting from October 4 while the second Test will commence from October 12 at Hyderabad.
Here is how the Twitter reacted as Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal earned his maiden call-up to the India Test squad for the series against Windies:
Congratulations @mayankcricket on making into the Indian Test squad.. your hard work has paid off.. All the very best for the series and make the most of it ??

Dhawan, Karthik omitted from Tests v West Indies. On the cards after their disappointing show in England. Runs in Asia Cup (especially Dhawan) can’t be redemption, thereby blocking high scoring youngsters. Welcome Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal!

Finally Mayank Agarwal gets a call up. Was long due. Also very happy for Mohammad Siraj, has earned it through impressive performances for the A team.

Couldn't be happier for Mayank Agarwal. Finally gets his due. From what I've seen of him in the IPL and the domestic circuit, his batting has been most delightful. Very reminiscent of a certain Virender Sehwag. Let's hope he is Viru's successor!@mayankcricket All the best!

Not selecting Rohit & Dhawan was the right decision. Finally the selectors are differentiating between ODI & Test performance. Prithvi Shaw & Mayank Agarwal shud be given a chance now & groomed for the future. We need good test batsmen for the next tour in Australia.

Well deserved call up for Mayank Agarwal and Siraj. Hopefully both will get some game time. Prithvi must play too. It’s going to be an interesting selection for the playing XI. #IndvWI

Those who are happy with Mayank Agarwal's inclusion in the squad for WI series.. Have a look at the squad composition. Do you think there is any chance he will get to play both Tests? I don't think so. I doubt that he will be picked to play even one Test. #INDvWI

India is looking for a different team for Tests than ODIs and T20s. Search for New Openers is continue. Rohit and Dhawan are too good in White Ball Circket. Karun Nair has been unlucky, he should be tried more. Siraj, Shaw and Mayank Agarwal are players to watch out…#INDvWI
