Rohit Sharma could not make his place in India’s Test squad for the two-match series Windies despite performing well in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2018. In fact, the interim captain had also led India with aplomb. Furthermore, he was the second highest run-getter of the tournament with 317 runs in the five matches. Therefore, it was a complete performance from the flamboyant right-hander.

Meanwhile, it is well known that Rohit Sharma has had his struggles in the red ball version of the game. The right-hander had played the first two Test matches on the South African tour. However, he could make amends as he failed to deliver the goods.

Rohit Sharma hasn’t hit the ground running in Test cricket.

Subsequently, Rohit was dropped for the final third Test match against the Proteas and could not make the cut for the Test squad for the England tour. However, there is no denying the fact that Rohit Sharma finds it difficult to tackle the swinging conditions.

In fact, there is no doubt that Rohit has done well in the longest format while playing in the home conditions. Furthermore, he has scored a couple of hundreds against the Windies in white clothing.

Thus, it won’t have been a bad idea to give some confidence to Rohit in Test cricket. We had seen the Indian batting line-up struggle in the English conditions and Virat Kohli was the lone warrior. Consequently, the batsmen had let the team down.

Moreover, the series against the Windies could have been a perfect preparation for Rohit Sharma for the tour of Australia. We know there isn’t a lot of swing in the Australian conditions. The bounce is true on the Aussie pitches and Rohit Sharma could do well there if he gets his chance.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Test selection which did not have Rohit Sharma.
