Despite the recent downturn in fortunes of the Indian cricket team, there can be no doubting the talent of Indian batsmen and bowlers. Until the New Zealand tour, Virat Kohli’s men had been in a great run of form. Even at the ODI World Cup 2019, they completed the group stage undefeated.

Similarly, the India U19 team did exceptionally well at the U19 World Cup 2020, they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, reached the final for a third consecutive time, but couldn’t cross the final hurdle of Bangladesh.

Having said that, the future indeed does look bright for team India, as there are a lot of talented players knocking at the door.

Indian batsmen such as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are on the wrong side of the 30s, and as they reach the fag end of their respective careers, team India has ready-made replacements for them.

Here are three Indian batsmen who have a big future with Team India:

3) Shubman Gill

One of the leading candidates to take over the mantle as India’s opening player, Shubman Gill has enormous talent. He rose to fame after being named as India’s vice-captain for the U19 World Cup Squad in 2018. The youngster finished that tournament as the top scorer with 372 runs.

Since then, he has not looked back. Shubman has consistently scored runs be it on domestic level or at the Indian Premier League (IPL). In January last year, the 20-year-old lad from Punjab made his ODI debut against New Zealand.

In August 2019, he became the youngest batsman in history to score a double century in first-class cricket. All these accolades highlight that Shubman indeed has a lot of potentials and he has a bright future with India.

2) Prithvi Shaw

Former India Under-19 skipper Prithvi Shaw is often billed as one of the most talented young Indian batsmen. Shaw led India to the U19 World Cup title in 2018, after which he played for India ‘A’ as well. On 4 October 2019, the 20-year-old batsman made his Test debut in national colours.

On his debut versus the West Indies, Shaw hit a century and became the youngest batsman to hit a Test century on his debut, aged just 18. Due to his performances, the opener was named Man of the Series.

Recently, in the tour of New Zealand, Shaw made his ODI debut as well.

In the second Test versus the hosts, Shaw hit his second half-century, thereby becoming the second youngest batsman to hit a fifty in New Zealand behind only Sachin Tendulkar. All in all, he has enormous talent and Shaw could very well become the face of India’s batting in the near future.

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal

Perhaps the youngest superstar to come out of the pipeline lately has been Yashasvi Jaiswal. From selling Panipuri to slamming sixes at the U19 World Cup 2020, his story has been nothing short of an inspiration. Jaiswal finished the U19 World Cup as top scorer of the tournament, having scored 400 runs.

Such is the early promise with him, that IPL outfit Rajasthan Royals (RR) spent a whopping INR 2.4 crores, to secure the 18-year-old services. An opener, who has a knack of playing bit shots, Jaiswal rose to fame after hitting a double ton in an ODI match in 2019.

He is definitely going to feature in the Indian team in the next few years, as Jaiswal is one of the most promising young Indian batsmen the country has ever-produced.
