India’s U19 World Cup team gave a good account of themselves on the world stage in South Africa. They fell just short of the final hurdle, as Bangladesh pipped them to the title, but their performances throughout the tournament will be worth remembering.

Even before the U19 World Cup 2020 had begun, five out of the fifteen-member squad of the Indian colts had bagged an Indian Premier League(IPL) 2020 contract, with four of them going for more than one INR crore. While the hefty price tag will be there, these young players will try and make the most of this opportunity.

With just one round of cricket remaining in the Ranji Trophy, for most players of the U19 World Cup squad, the season is almost over. But for the ones who will play in IPL 2020, the season has only just begun.

Today, we will be taking a look at five prodigious India U19 World Cup 2020 players who will now ply their trade in the IPL 2020:

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal had already been the pick of the lot before his World Cup exploits. As many as four IPL team went for him but eventually, Rajasthan Royals shelled out Rs. 2.4 crores for his services.

He finished the global event as the highest run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 400 runs, and the Royals will be very ecstatic to have him scoring just as freely in the IPL, as he did in the U19 World Cup.

However, that does not mean that Jaiswal will be an automatic starter in one of the top T20 leagues in the World. Royals have a competitive squad and the 18-year-old will have to fight for his place in the playing XI.

2) Priyam Garg

The skipper of India U19 World Cup squad, Priyam Garg was snared up by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2020 auction for an amount of Rs. 1.9 crores.

Despite being just 19, he has a lot of experience under his belt. Garg has played 12 first-class matches, 19 List-A matches and 11 T20 matches.

However, he too will have to fight for his place in the Sunrisers’s set up as they have some quality players who can play in the middle order, where Garg prefers to bat. But having said that, it’s a long season and the right-handed batsman will get his chances.

3) Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi finished the U19 World Cup as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, having scalped 17 wickets although he was already a man in demand before his World Cup heroics. Kings XI Punjab spent Rs. 2 crores on the spinner who hails from Rajasthan.

In the IPL 2020, Bishnoi will play under the tutelage of former India legendary bowler and King XI Punjab (KXIP) coach Anil Kumble, who will surely help the 19-year-old polish his skills further.

Although, just like his U19 teammates at the IPL, the left-arm leggie will have to fight it out with the six other spinners that are a part of the Punjab-based franchise.

4) Kartik Tyagi

Juniors pacers have already been hogging the limelight in the past couple of auctions and the next-in-line was Kartik Tyagi, who impressed one and all with his pace and guile at the U19 World Cup 2020.

Few people know that the prodigious Tyagi was fast-tracked into Uttar Pradesh’s senior team back in 2017, but he missed a big chunk of the season due to injury and was sent back to junior cricket later. He came back roaring into the U19 World Cup collecting 11 wickets at the global event.

Royals wisely spent Rs. 1.3 crores on Tyagi, who seems like a future superstar for both his franchise and the Indian senior team.

5) Akash Singh

Rajasthan Royals snapped up three India U19 World Cup players and the third one was the local lad Akash Singh, who they signed for his base price of Rs. 20 Lakhs. After the 17-year-old’s World Cup exploits though, the Royals would be extremely happy to have signed him for so cheap.

Akash played six matches for the Indian colts and picked up seven wickets. He is still extremely young, and may not be a certain starter for the Royals but he will learn from the best in business, in IPL 2020.

Also, as per reports, the pacer has a mighty good left arm so, the sky is the limit for this prodigious young talent.
