The former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni added yet another feather to his illustrious and glittering career as he became the fifth Indian to go past 6,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper achieved the feat during the match against the Delhi Daredevils (DD) at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on May 18. The likes of Suresh Raina (7708), Virat Kohli (7621), Rohit Sharma (7303) and Gautam Gambhir (6402) are other Indian batsmen who achieved the feat earlier than “Magnificent Mahendra”.

Ahead of the clash against Delhi, Dhoni required 10 more runs to enter the 6,000 club. He played mediocre innings of 17 runs before being dismissed by Trent Boult. Chennai ended up losing the match by 34 runs courtesy of some sensational bowling by Daredevils. Dhoni now accumulated 6,0007 runs in 290 T20 matches so far.

Chennai had a chance of moving to the top of the points table if they had won against Daredevils. They would have backed themselves to do so. However the Delhi bowlers with nothing to lose produced a magnificent performance and restricted Chennai quite well. It was only their fourth win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Dhoni has been in sensational form in the ongoing tournament so far.

At the age of 36, the former Indian skipper has smashed sixes with utter disdain. Even his teammate Suresh Raina said that old-performing Dhoni is back. The southpaw further predicted two three great upcoming years for Dhoni.

Dhoni’s tournament so far:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has scored 430 runs in the tournament so far with as many as 29 sixes. He has been in phenomenal hitting form and has made many bowling attacks look clueless.

The form of Dhoni will be a huge positive for the Indian national team as they prepare for the 2019 World Cup in England scheduled to be held next year.

Meanwhile coming back to leading run scorers in T20’s, Chirs Gayle is in the top of the list with 11,436 runs under his belt. The southpaw has smashed 21 centuries and 50 half-centuries in his T20 career so far.

Furthermore, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum occupies the second spot with 9,119 runs in 335 encounters at an average of 30.70.
