It is a well-established fact by now that former Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and the current one, Virat Kohli, share an iconic camaraderie within the Indian team.
The two are part of the leadership group of the Men in Blue, decimating opposition with their tactics and planning, as well as guiding youngsters in the team towards success.
However, one can’t help but draw comparisons between the two legends of the game. Also, paparazzi constantly tries to spark off rift with their questionable enquiries.
In a promotional event, the talismanic Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni was asked about the leadership of Virat Kohli. To which the senior campaigner, humorously, summed it up in two words.
“I always felt a good captain is the one who understands the individuals. Because if you don’t know a player’s strength or weakness, you cannot give him the proper advice,” MS Dhoni told the audience in New Delhi.
When asked about the traits of a proper captain, Dhoni mentioned that it was important for a leader to go through the ranks, in order to understand the mindset of players.
“I think it’s important how good you are as a team and how good you are as an individual, who helps others to perform,” continued Dhoni.
Apart from all the World Cup credentials, Dhoni is also responsible for developing international careers for various stars in the current Indian team.
“It helps you understand the game, the problems that you may face as a player. Once you reach the top you would know what an individual would be feeling,” suggested the CSK captain.
“As a player, you also learn a lot from your leaders. Not only about how to conduct yourself but also about what not to do,” he maintained.
Just then, a person from the crowd came and asked about Kohli’s captaincy.
To which Mahendra Singh Dhoni replied by saying,”He is very good,” leaving one and all in splits.
