IPL 2018: Match 32, Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals – Statistical Highlights
A brilliant batting show helped Delhi Daredevils get back to winning ways with a 4-run win (DLS method) over Rajasthan Royals in a rain-curtailed game. Sent in to bat first, Daredevils scored 196 for 6 in 17.1 overs before rain ended their innings. Rishabh Pant (69) and Shreyas Iyer (50) starred with the bat while Prithvi Shaw also made a valuable contribution of 47. In reply, Royals, given a revised total of 151 off 12 overs, scored 146 for 5. Jos Buttler gave them a flying start by scoring 67 off just 26 balls but his teammates failed to capitalise on it.
With the game now all done, here is a look at some interesting numbers:
1. Jos Buttler reached the fifty-run mark in just 4.1 overs of the Royals’ innings. It was only the 3rd instance when a player has scored a fifty in the IPL that early in the innings. KL Rahul got to his 14-ball fifty on the 5th ball of the 3rd over of Kings XI Punjab’s innings against Delhi only while David Warner scored a fifty by over 4.1 of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s inning against Kolkata Knight Riders last year.
2. The narrow win ended Delhi’s 7-match losing streak against the Royals in the IPL. This was Delhi’s first win in IPL against Royals since the 6-wicket victory in Jaipur, 2012.
3. Buttler took only 18 balls to score his fifty. It is the fastest fifty by a Royals’ player in the IPL. The record was previously held by Owais Shah who scored a 19-ball 50 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012.
4. Buttler’s 18-ball fifty is the 3rd fastest fifty in the IPL ending up on the losing side. Suresh Raina scored a 16-ball fifty against Kings XI Punjab in 2014 for Chennai Super Kings while Chris Morris scored a 17-ball fifty in 2016 for Delhi against Gujarat Lions in losing cause.
5. Rishabh Pant scored his sixth IPL fifty. He now has most IPL fifties for a player under the age of 21. He surpassed Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson both of whom had scored 5 fifties.
6. Amit Mishra became the first player to feature in 50 Twenty20 matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
