Rajasthan Royals (RR) kept their hopes alive in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 30 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Batting first, Rajasthan’s ploy to send in Jofra Archer in place of Jos Buttler failed miserably. Umesh Yadav removed him for a golden duck, as the host were reeling at 2 for one.

Since then, skipper Ajinkya Rahane partnered Rahul Tripathi to steady the RR ship. The pair added 99-run for the second wicket to lay the platform for the upcoming batters. While Tripathi showed his class from the last season, Rahane provided him good support.

However, two quick wickets from Umesh Yadav shifted the gears. He removed Rahane (33) and in-form Sanju Samson for not in the first ball.

However, Tripathi continued his onslaught getting good support from Heinrich Klaasen and Krishnappa Gowtham. Klassen chipped in 32 from 21 balls while Gowtham contributed with 14 runs off just five deliveries.

Moreover, Tripathi remained unbeaten on 80 runs, as Rajasthan finished on 164 runs at the end of 20 overs. Bangalore bowlers did a good job to restrict the Royals to a modest total led by Umesh Yadav (three for 25).

In reply, AB de Villiers and Parthiv Patel steadied the innings after losing skipper Virat Kohli (4). The duo added 57 runs to take the score to 75 runs for one before Parthiv departed.

Since then, RCB witnessed a middle-order collapse by the wrist spinners led by Shreyas Gopal. The leg-spinner was magical removing the likes of Patel, de Villiers, Moeen Ali, and Mandeep Singh, as he returned with four for 16 in his four overs.

De Villiers chipped in with another fifty, however, failed to take his team over the rope.

However, the wicket-taking spree continued, and this time it was Ben Laughlin’s turn. He removed Sarfaraz Khan and Umesh Yadav in back to back deliveries, as RCB were striving at 113 for eight at the end of 16th over.

Although Tim Southee and Mohammad Siraj tried their best but the target was beyond their reach with Hyderabad bowler coming out too good.

Virat Kohli &, his boys, once again had a disastrous tournament failing to qualify for the playoffs.

Brief Score: RR 164/5 ( Tripathi 80*, Yadav 3/25) beat RCB 134/10 (de Villiers 53, Gopal 4/16) by ten runs
