Delhi Daredevils (DD) led by Shreyas Iyer signed off from the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an enticing win.

Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) crashed out, doing much favour to Rajasthan. Just like Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday (May 19), Mumbai choked under pressure as Daredevils put up a scintillating show.

Rishabh Pant bagged the orange cap, scoring 64 runs off 44 balls, which saw him hit four sixes and an equal number of boundaries. Vijay Shankar whacked two sixes and three fours to get to 43 off 30 balls.

Foreign pick Glenn Maxwell, who has struggled to score runs this season, opened the innings. He made 22 of 18 balls and helped the side set the tempo.

Iyer’s Delhi makes it count:

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for the men in blue. The pacer bagged a wicket and conceded just 29 runs. Chasing 175 for victory, Surya Kumar Yadav hit Sandeep Lamichhane for a four and a six but the bowler had the last laugh.

Moreover, left-hand batter Evin Lewis made a solid 48, hitting four sixes and three fours. All-rounder Ben Cutting threatened to take the game away from Delhi and provided some hope for the Mumbai fans but he received no support from the other end.

Sandeep ended the game with three wickets while Amit Mishra was adjudged the Man of the Match for his three for 19.

“It has been a satisfying end to us this season. Mumbai wanted to qualify badly and beating this is very satisfying.

Iyer said 174 was an above par score on this track and lauded his spinners’ efforts. He also said his bowlers executed the plan well. On winning the toss, he said he was aware that the ball is going to turn in the second innings.

“We have been playing cricket on this wicket for a few days now and we have read the track well.” the winning captain Shreyas Iyer concluded.
