IPL 2018: 'Sir You Are My Favourite Batsman': Eoin Morgan Hails Jos Buttler
There is absolutely no stopping Jos Buttler. Rajasthan Royals’ decision to promote him as an opener has turned out to be a masterstroke.
On Sunday (May 13), the right-handed batsman played yet another gem of a knock to fire Royals to an impressive win over defending champions Mumbai Indians in a must-win clash. Buttler scored an unbeaten 94 as the Royals crushed Mumbai by seven wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive. The England wicketkeeper hit five sixes in his 53-ball stay to get the Royals to their target of 169 with two overs to spare.
The fifty was Buttler’s fifth consecutive in the league, tying the IPL record of Virender Sehwag. The former India opener had scored five fifties on trot while playing for Delhi Daredevils in 2012. Buttler also became the fourth player after Sehwag, Hamilton Masakadza and Kamran Akmal to score five consecutive 50+ scores in the Twenty20 format.
Royals chased 169 on a difficult Wankhede wicket and Buttler batted with a lot of responsibility. He added 95 runs for the second wicket with captain Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 36). While other batsmen struggled to time the ball, Buttler did it with remarkable ease.
After Rahane’s dismissal, Buttler added 61 runs with Sanju Samson, who chipped in with a useful cameo of 26 runs as Royals overhauled the target with 12 balls to spare. Buttler finished the match in style, launching one from Hardik Pandya deep into the stands.
The 27-year old has been receiving widespread praise for his remarkable consistency. And the latest to lavish praise on him is none other than his England skipper Eoin Morgan. The England star took to Twitter to hail Buttler, writing:
