Bouncing back strongly from the defeat in the last game, Delhi Daredevils (DD) posted a massive 196 for six against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the first innings of the game that has been reduced to 18 overs due to rain.

Delhi could not bat the last five balls of the innings after rain interrupted the game again.

Put in to bat first, the Daredevils were off to the worst possible start. Dhawal Kulkarni made Colin Munro edge one behind the stumps on the very first ball of the innings.

It, however, was not the precursor of the things that were to follow. The in-form duo of Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer did not let the visitors capitalise on the fine start.

Both the players were matching each other shot for shot, thus laying the foundation for a good total.

During the powerplay, it was all about Shaw while Iyer looked more than happy to see his young teammate taking the attack to the opposition.

The first two overs yielded just six runs before Shaw decided to take on Kulkarni. In the third over, he slammed his state teammate for a six and four to collect 16 runs. That over provided the impetus to the innings.

In the fifth over, Shaw hit Jaydev Unadkat for a six and two fours to help Delhi finish the powerplay on 48 for one.

In the very next over, Iyer got into the groove, hitting Shreyas Gopal for two sixes as Delhi’s innings was up and running. It looked as if the duo is set to make life difficult for the Royals before Gopal accounted for Shaw against the run of play.

The opening batsman scored 47 off 25 including four fours and as many sixes.

But even Shaw’s dismissal did not bring any respite for the Royals. New batsman Rishabh Pant started firing right from the word go, hitting two sixes and a four in the first 10 balls he faced.

Delhi entered the three-digit in the 11th over. On the other hand, Iyer was also doing his scoring at a good pace as Delhi looked primed for a huge total. Both Iyer and Pant reached the fifties in quick succession.

Pant was the first to reach the landmark off just 23 balls while Iyer took 34 balls. At the end of the 14th over, the scoreboard was reading 160 for two.

The partnership was eventually ended when Unadkat dismissed Pant for 50. A while later, Unadkat struck again to remove Pant, much to the relief of his team. The southpaw scored 69  off just 29 balls.

Delhi Daredevils lost quite a few wickets in quick succession towards the end but the early carnage helped them post a daunting total.
