Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner, Ish Sodhi has admitted that spending time with the legendary Shane Warne at the nets during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season will help him grow as a bowler in the impending future.
Meanwhile, Sodhi went unsold at the two-day mega-auction of the league earlier this year (January). However, the Royals roped him as the replacement of Afghanistan leg-spinner Zahir Khan.
While wrist spinners are dominating the tournament, Sodhi is raring to make a mark for Rajasthan. So far, Sodhi ranked number four among Twenty20 bowlers in the world and has played only one game.
Having Warne as a coach is icing on the cake –
Sodhi was in Auckland when the tournament got rolling and he admitted that it was good to see wrist-spinners leaving an impact.
Moreover, he added that having Warne as a mentor was the best part.
“The current IPL season got rolling while I was in Auckland. It was heartening to see the wrist spinners making an impact in the T20 tournament. I was itching to bowl, and to my surprise, Rajasthan Royals signed me up. Having Shane Warne as a coach was icing on the cake,” Sodhi was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, this is his first IPL stint and will be raring to leave a long-lasting impression.
Born in Ludhiana, Sodhi has learnt the nuances of the game back in New Zealand. He admitted that spending the time along with legendary spinner, has been the highlight so far.
The 25-year-old ISh Sodhi also admitted that he will go back as a better bowler from India.
“I have spent close to two weeks with Rajasthan Royals. Bowling under the eyes of Shane Warne has been a highlight for me. His inputs will help me become a better spinner. He is always telling me things which are eye-opening,” he concluded.
However, Rajasthan is struggling in this eleventh season as they are languishing in the bottom half of the table. They need to put their acts together and come good as a team.
