Varun enters into the cash-rich tournament
Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy had a long story in his cricketing life. He had played cricket in school without much success and quitted the game to concentrate more on academics. Varun came into the domestic circuit after playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2018. He had shown some terrific effort with his spin as the selectors got impressed. Since then, he cemented his place in the Tamil Nadu’s Limited-overs team.
Moreover, the right arm spinner explained his journey and how he struggled to make it to the higher levels in school. He quit the sport in Class XII, then did a five-year Architecture course, and worked in a firm for close to two years. However, one fine day, at 25, he decided to quit and started giving his time for his old passion.
“I don’t know, I just built up so much pressure inside me, and it blasted... I just quit and walked in and right away said I want to stop working and I came back. So I told my parents that my mind was not there, I just wasn’t able to do it. They understood and supported me, although I didn’t know what I was going to do next. I dusted off my old kit bag which I hadn’t used for six years. I didn’t know anything else and had to take up cricket again.” Varun Chakravarthy narrates his journey to Cricketnext.
Furthermore, Chakravarthy admitted that he thought his base price would be too much for him. He also said that he was expecting the franchise will take him with the base price. However, his mystery spin impressed many and got sold at 8.40 crores.
“I was following the auction and just saying ‘kadavule, kadavule’ (god, god) as the bidding went on. I thought the price was a bit too much, And I didn’t expect it. And I was thinking they’ll take me for my base price (Rs. 20 lakh). I swear I was expecting only to be taken at the base price!” he added.
Varun Chakravarthy now has got a great platform to prove himself and will try to put all his best to get into the national side as well.
