IPL 2019: Cricket Fraternity Shower Praise on Shubman Gill as he Guides Kolkata Knight Riders to a Seven-Wicket Victory

Kolkata Knight Riders‘ young batsman Shubman Gill played a superb match-winning knock to guide his team to a seven-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. As a result, Kolkata pocketed two crucial points to sit at fifth place in the points table. Kolkata and Sunrisers Hyderabad are on the same point, but Hyderabad occupy the fourth spot with higher net run-rate.

Batting first, Kings XI Punjab posted 183 runs with cameos from Nicholas Pooran and Sam Curran. Pooran chipped in with 48 runs from 27 balls after they lost two quick wickets at the start, The cricketer from the Windies stitched a crucial stand with Mayank Agarwal to bail his side out of danger. Meanwhile, the wicket of Mayank Agarwal saw Sam Curran walk out to the middle as Punjab was staring to a moderate finish. But the English all-rounder ha other things in mind as he took on Kolkata bowling to help the host register 183 runs on the board.

Gill stars for Kolkata

Many thought it would be a tough chase for the Kolkata Knight Riders, but Chris Lynn went berserk in the powerplays as Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out that they lost the game in the powerplays. Although Lynn departed, Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell played small cameos while Shubman Gill stood tall from the other end. The young batsman from Punjab showed great maturity to hold the fort from one end while others went hard at the bowlers. In the process, Gill crossed the half-century to set the tone before Dinesh Karthik nine-ball 21 sealed the victory.

Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 65 runs from 49 deliveries included five fours and two sixes. He made full utilisation of the opportunity at the top to impress, and the cricketing fraternity was in awe of him.
