IPL 2019: Delhi Capitals To Rope In Dhiraj Malhotra As CEO

In a move to redecorate their organisations, Delhi Capitals – the newly named Indian Premier League franchise will be signing Dhiraj Malhotra as their new CEO. However, Delhi Capitals, then Daredevils, didn’t have the best of seasons last time around. The team couldn’t live up to the expectations and lost a few matches. To add to Delhi’s agony, Gautam Gambhir also strained to find his feet as a player.

Subsequently, the left-hander stepped down from leading the team. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer the right-hander from Mumbai took over the duty from the veteran. The franchise couldn’t put up a good team effort and failed to progress to the playoffs. They had only managed to won five games out of fourteen in the 2018 Indian Premier League. Going into the next season’s IPL, they have persisted with Iyer as the captain.

Malhotra who held responsible positions in the ICC and IPL as the tournament director was also a candidate for BCCI’s general manager (cricket operations). Previously, Hemant Dua was the CEO from 2012. However, he decided to step down from the duty in August this year.

Moreover, Dhiraj Malhotra was a part of the Indian Soccer League (ISL) as a tournament director. He also worked in similar positions in setting up Kabaddi and Badminton leagues in the country.

“This is a big step for the team, which is trying to set up a fresh system in place,” a source was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

Furthermore, Delhi Capitals had mane done some exciting introduction in the squad. They have roped the service of South African Colin Ingram along with two Indian all-rounder – Hanuma Vihari and Axar Patel.

DC also made a new addition of veteran Indian seamer Ishant Sharma who will act as a senior member of the team.
