Things are just not looking good for Chennai Super Kings at the moment as their head coach Stephen Fleming said MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja are “pretty sick”. With the most important phase of the IPL all set to start and the World Cup not too far away, seeing these two players sick is the last thing Super Kings and Indian fans would have wanted.  Both the players missed Super Kings’ clash last night against Mumbai Indians.

In the absence of the two players, the Super Kings suffered a crushing 46-run loss at the hands of the visitors.  They were all out for just 109 while chasing a modest 156.  While Murali Vijay, playing his first game this season, did well to score 38, none of the other top six batsmen delivered. In fact, barring Vijay, all the other five of the top six failed to reach even the double-digit mark. At one stage, it was looking like they would not even reach the 100-run mark before Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Santner played fine cameos to help the team cross the 100-run mark. It was, however, not enough for the Super Kings to lose their first home game this season and score their lowest total in Chennai.

And the signs are still not promising as Stephen Fleming said Dhoni and Jadeja are still not near to fully fi.

“They (Dhoni and Jadeja) both are pretty sick… both unwell, virus and bacteria… A lot of teams are struggling at the moment through that,” Fleming said after the game.

Dhoni is Super Kings’ top run-scorer this season, having scored 314 runs from 10 games at an average of over 104.  The World Cup starts May 30 in the United Kingdom and both Dhoni and Jadeja are part of the Indian squad. India will be desperately hoping that both Jadeja and Dhoni recover in time for the mega event.

Super Kings, meanwhile, will next play Delhi Capitals in Chennai on May 1. The defending champions have all but sealed their playoff spot with 8 wins from 12 games.
